Terminology Related Mobile IP Networking

Agent Advertisement: The process by which a mobility aganet becomes known to the mobile node.

Binding Update: The message that supplies a new binding to an entity that needs to know the new care-of address for a mobile node. The binding update contains the mobile node's home address, new care-of address, and a new registration lifetime.

Care-of Address: An IP address at the mobile node's current point of attachment to the Internet, when the mobile node is not attached to the home network.

Foreign Agent: A mobilty agent that is on the foreign network that assists the mobile node in receiving data that is delivered to the care-of address.

Foreign Network: The network where the mobile node is attached to when it is away from it's home network. This is the network where the care-of address is reached by the rest of the Internet.

Home Address: The IP address that is given to the mobile node that makes it seem to be attached to its home network.

Home Agent: A node on the home network that enables the mobile node to be reached at its home address even in times when the mobile node is not attached to its home network.

Home Network: The network at which the mobile node seems reachable due to its assigned IP address.

Mobility Agent: A nodethat offers support services to mobile nodes. A mobilty agent can be either a foreign agent or a home agent.

Mobile Node: A node that has a changing point of attachment to the Internet.

Registration: The process that the mobile node uses to inform the home agent about its most recent care-of address.
