Circuit Allocation Algorithms for UltraScienceNet - 03/31/2006

A network was established between the national labs in the United States with the intention of transferring large amounts of data between different labs. Using standard network protocols is inefficient for this task. Therefore, a new mechanism has been implemented, allowing users to request a designated circuit and an appropriate time slot for each transfer. We present an algorithm for scheduling the transfers, and survey some results and future directions regarding this mechanism.
